Community slangLoading dose
Also known as: front load · front-loading · frontloading
A larger initial dose intended to reach steady-state concentrations faster than regular dosing would.
In plain terms
"Front-loading" is the community term. It is pharmacologically coherent for long-half-life drugs, where steady state otherwise takes over a month — and it is precisely the drugs with long half-lives whose side effects are hardest to reverse if the loading dose was a mistake.
