Peptide
Selank
Selank is used or studied for reduces anxiety and related cognitive, mood and neurological support goals. Potential benefits and safety depend on indication, formulation, dose, and medical supervision.
In depth
How it works
Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide fragment, extended with a stabilizing tripeptide to slow its breakdown in the body. Research suggests it affects GABAergic signaling and enkephalin (natural opioid peptide) degradation, which is the proposed basis for its anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects.
What the research shows
A Russian clinical study comparing Selank to the benzodiazepine medazepam in patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia found a similar anxiolytic effect, with Selank also showing anti-fatigue and mild stimulant effects.
Selank is a registered anxiolytic drug in Russia, but it has not gone through FDA or EMA review, and the clinical evidence base is almost entirely Russian-language trials rather than large Western randomized controlled trials.
Safety and who should avoid it
Reported side effects in published studies are mild — transient nasal irritation or headache — with no reported dependency potential, unlike benzodiazepines. It should not be treated as a substitute for a clinically supervised anxiety treatment.
