Amino acid sequence

Also known as: primary structure · sequence

The exact order of amino acids in a peptide, which determines its identity and everything it does.

In plain terms

Two vials can contain molecules of identical mass and completely different sequences. This is why mass spectrometry, which measures mass, confirms identity only in combination with knowing what mass to expect.

When a vendor says a product is "the same peptide," ask about the sequence — including any modifications at the ends of the chain, which are invisible in a name like "GHRP-6" but change the pharmacology.
