Tachyphylaxis

A rapid loss of response to a drug after repeated administration, occurring over hours or days rather than weeks.

In plain terms

Distinguished from ordinary tolerance mainly by speed. Where it occurs, spacing doses further apart usually preserves the response better than increasing them.
